An intraocular lens implant is an artificial replacement for the lens of the eye for successfully treating cataract. Implants are made up of clear plastic and it’s about a third the size of a dime. During the procedure, anaesthesia is given to the patient followed by a tiny cut through the cornea to reach the lens. The specialist then breaks the lens into pieces and removes it bit by bit. Later, they place the implant and allow the wound to heal itself. It takes around an hour for the procedure to complete. The right specialist to consult for the Intraocular Implants (IOLs) placement is an Ophthalmologist. The success rate for the treatment remains around 72-92%.
