Laparoscopic Biliopancreatic Diversion (LBD) is a weight-loss procedure for treating obesity. It is a restrictive and mal-absorptive procedure. The procedure involves removal of 80% of the stomach that gives it a banana or tube-like shape. The reshaped stomach is attached to the distal segment of the small intestine. Then, the small intestine is shortened by bypassing its first two segments that results in less absorption of nutrients that ultimately leads to weight loss. An experienced Gastroenterologist is the right specialist for carrying out LBD. There is a high possibility that the patient may lose up to 50% of their total body weight in the first six months post-treatment. It takes up to 4-6 weeks for a patient to get back to a normal routine after LBD.
