Myringotomy

About
Myringotomy

A surgical procedure for draining out pus from the ear.

Myringotomy is a surgical procedure for draining out fluid deposits or pus from the middle ear by creating a small hole in the eardrum. During the procedure, the surgeon creates a small incision in the eardrum and inserts a small tube into the hole created for draining of fluid. This fluid may be pus, blood, and/or water. An experienced ENT surgeon should be preferred for Myringotomy. The overall success rate for the treatment remains around 90% with minor chances of complications or risks. It takes around 4 weeks for a complete recovery post-surgery. In case, if ear tubes are placed, they should come out within 6-12 months.
