Radiofrequency ablation, also called fulguration, is a medical procedure in which a part of the electrical conduction system of the heart, tumour or other dysfunctional tissue is ablated through the heat generated from medium-frequency alternating current. The procedure uses heat generated by radio waves for targeting specific nerves and temporarily turning off their ability to send pain signals and the needles are inserted through the skin near the painful area to deliver the radio waves to the targeted nerves.
